History

The Romanian IAR 316 light utility helicopter is a locally built (licensed) popular French made Aerospatiale Alouette III series (model SA 316B). The Alouette III first flew as a prototype on February 28, 1959, entered service in 1960, and remains active in the sky until today (2016). More than 2,000 such examples were eventually produced for various global operators. The Romanian form itself was launched in 1971 and produced from 1971 to 1987, with 250 units delivered.

These individuals have held positions and training positions during the broadcast.

IAR is the aerospace manufacturer Industria Aeronautica Romana from Ghimbav.

Due to its origins in French design, it hardly differs from the local Romanian model. As Romania was within the communist sphere of influence during the decades of the Cold War, the helicopters were modified to support Eastern Bloc weapons and equipment, although there was little difference in form and function between the two designs - a single-engine unit for three The main plane of the blade to the rotor, the three-blade tail rotor, the nose part is all glass, the cockpit has an excellent view, and the tricycle landing gear is fixed in flight.

Standard IAR 316 model with 570 hp Turbomeca "Artouste" IIIB turboshaft engine. Top speed reaches 130 mph, range is up to 335 miles, and service is capped at 10,500 feet.

While the original IAR 316 model could be equipped with a light weapons kit, IAR engineers improved the product to play the gunship role in the IAR 317 "Airfox" product. For this model, the cockpit has been completely redesigned to accommodate a layered pilot/gunner arrangement, while stubs have been added to the sides of the fuselage to manage anti-tank (AT) missiles, rocket pods and machine guns.

In addition, the main structure and components of the original IAR 316 are preserved. Despite this work, the IAR 317 failed to generate market interest and only one prototype was completed.

In addition to serving in the Romanian Air Force, the IAR 316 was also adopted by the Angolan Air Force.
