For decades, the Indonesian state has been using Spanish CASA C-235 high-wing aircraft at both civilian and military levels. So, with new initiatives in the aerospace industry, the country has naturally turned to the local production of proven and globally popular series albeit adjusted to local requirements.
This produces Indonesia Aerospace's product "N-245", which is still under development at the time of writing.
Development of the N-245 began in 2016. Now with firm support from the government, the first flight of the prototype is tentatively scheduled for 2019.
The N-245 was essentially an offshoot of the Spanish design, retaining all the form and features of the original design, except for a lengthened fuselage, a new T-tail, and a switch to Pratt & Whitney engines. It can accommodate fifty passengers and two crew members. Power comes from two engines on each wing's main aircraft.
The N-245 is said to have a high-mounted wing, excellent short take-off and landing (STOL) capability, as well as good short-field/rough-field performance and high-temperature high-altitude capability. Primarily for military service, the series will feature systems common to military transport types (although it lacks the C-235's rear-loading ramp).
Power comes from 2 Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engines that are readily available in the area and are affordable.
