History

The MiG-41 is being developed by Mikoyan OKB as a potential successor to the Cold War-era MiG-31 Foxhound supersonic interceptor. The aircraft is intended as a high-performance solution for high-altitude predation of enemy aircraft, especially espionage platforms from the United States or neighboring China that intervene in Russia's vast airspace.

Previous attempts to take over the MiG-31 line have ended in failure or project abandonment, many of which were invalidated by the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989-1991.

The company is optimistic about a 2025 first flight date. An unmanned form is also mentioned, a variant of which is made directly from a manned aircraft. The design is also known as "PAK DP" ("Prospective Aircraft, Long Range Interceptor").

Currently (2020) details of the MiG-41 are scarce, with reports that the aircraft will reach speeds of Mach 3 to 4 and reach near-space altitudes. In addition, the MiG-41 will be equipped with 5th and 6th generation fighter characteristics and stealth capabilities, as well as direct anti-missile measures such as lasers for protection.

Its own primary weapon is likely to be long-range missiles.

Some values ??for this entry are estimates made by the authors or Mikoyan Company spokespersons themselves.

In parallel with the modernization, the operational MiG-31 (developed in-house by the MiG-25 "Foxbat") first flew in September 1975 and was introduced in May 1981, when the war between East and West was still ongoing Have a cold war. Type 519s were built and operated by the Soviet Air Force until its disbandment (after which they became the property of Russia and Kazakhstan).

At speeds approaching Mach 3, Foxhound accommodates a crew of two, carries a powerful radar and long-range missiles, and continues to patrol the skies over Russia to this day.
