History of NavMar TigerShark

There are many options available for discerning unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) customers. One such entry into this growing field is NavMar Applied Sciences Corporation's "TigerShark", which is classified as a MALE (Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) multi-role drone.

The TigerShark range currently (2017) consists of two main brands, the original TigerShark and the TigerShark XP with enhanced features.

Its basic design consists of a central fuselage with appropriate mission equipment, including cameras and sensors, and a high-position straight-wing main aircraft. The structure also houses the engines, avionics and usable fuel depots. The tail is a double cantilever structure with vertical and horizontal tails.

The chassis is wheeled and is a tricycle arrangement for ground running.

The wingspan is 22 feet and the overall length reaches 14.9 feet. Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is 450 lbs, with payloads up to 75 lbs. Tigershark is capable of operating at altitudes up to 14,000 feet, maintaining a mission duration window of up to 7 hours of flight time (although this is variable and depends on mission equipment configuration and available fuel loads).

It is powered by a 32-horsepower Herbrandson two-stroke engine driving a two-blade wood-core composite propeller in a "thrust" configuration.

The associated TigerShark XP model has inherent multi-mission capabilities covering data acquisition, reconnaissance, surveillance, communications relay, micro-UAV controller host, targeting, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) support, and geological/terrain overlay mapping Platforms, etc. The product has a "plug and play" feature that makes changes to mission payloads relatively easy. The on-camera camera mount supports infrared (IR) and electro-optical (EO) types.

TigerShark XP flies at speeds of up to 80 knots and reaches altitudes of 15,000 feet. It has a 12-hour endurance window and can take off, fly and land on its own, the latter powered by an integrated laser altimeter and "touchdown" sensors. Payloads up to 100 lbs.

TigerShark XP Long Range and Tigershark XP Trainer are further additions to the TigerShark range. The former is optimized for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) roles, while the latter is optimized for commercial and student drone flight training.

The TigerShark XP Long Range has a distinctly different hull design compared to other styles.
