History
The YF-17 Cobra is NASA Northrop Aviation's further test and created by research. The YF-17 Cobra itself was born out of the USAF's light fighter program.
The light fighter program requires prototypes to be small, low cost/maintenance, and capable of air superiority day fighters. Although the YF-17 lost out to General Dynamics' YF-16 (later the F-16 Fighting Falcon), the YF-17 will see bluer in the form of the later F/A-18 Hornet on US Navy aircraft carriers the sky.
After the YF-17 Cobra's failed LWF test flight competition, NASA began seven weeks of testing that included flight pressure data, transonic maneuverability, and 45-minute controlled flight Stability and control factors.
Ultimately, the YF-17 Cobra laid the groundwork for the first prototypes and production models of the very successful F/A-18 family of aircraft, which led to the design and eventual successor of the "Super Hornet", widely popular The well-received F-14 Tomcat - series of shipborne interceptors.
