Armstrong Whitworth F.K. 8 Stories

The Armstrong Whitworth F.K. 8 Model Collection is a biplane designed by aircraft designer and Dutch citizen Frederick Koolhoven. The aircraft ended up being an extremely versatile platform and received a lot of service during World War I, proving very popular with its crew.

The F.K.8 was equipped with this type, with production numbers exceeding 1,600 and no less than 22 British squadrons (including training). The other operators are Australia (post-war QANTAS), Paraguay and the Kingdom of Hejas (part of present-day Saudi Arabia).

The F.K.8 has a basic two-wing structure with upper and lower wing assemblies connected by struts and cables. The F.K. 8 is designed to replace the functionality of the previous F.K. 3 brand as a more powerful, more powerful form of upgrade (in fact, the F.K. 8 is an enlarged version of the F.K.

3). It retained the two-seat configuration, with the crew sitting side by side, the pilot in the open front cockpit and the observer/gunner in the rear. Armament consists of a fixed forward-firing 7.7mm Vickers machine gun for the pilot and a (or dual) 7.7mm Lewis machine gun on a trainable mount in the rear cockpit. Added provisions for bombs (up to 260 lbs) that constitute the F.K.8 light bomb.

Power comes from a Beardmore 6-cylinder in-line piston engine that produces up to 160 horsepower and a top speed of 95 mph. Service is capped at 13,000 feet and battery life is 3 hours.

The versatility of FK. 8 The various tasks experienced by the platform prove this. These include day and night bombing, ground attack, close support, continuous patrol, and aerial reconnaissance/reconnaissance. FK. 8 will conduct combat operations until the end of the war in November 1918.

During its flying career, the F.K.8 was known as "The Big Ack" or in some ways "Big AW" (referring to the manufacturer "Armstrong Whitworth", whose initials are adorned on the front side of the fuselage) .
