Avia B. 534 Story
The Czechoslovak series Avia B. 534 biplane is a highly regarded but often forgotten product in European countries. During operation in the early 1930s, some accounts listed it as the best aircraft in its class.
The machine performed so well that the Luftwaffe briefly established a fighter squadron that included captured B. 534 aircraft.
In short, the Avia B. 534 can be considered a fusion of two eras in aviation history. The B. 534 is equipped with static landing gear and is attached to its retro biplane wing assembly.
Beneath this dated exterior are four synchronized 7.7mm machine guns, a powerful 850-horsepower engine capable of a top speed of 245 mph, and a weapons system capable of carrying no less than six 44-pound bombs. The system reportedly handles so well that this combination of speed, handling, and firepower is well-received.
The fuselage structure of the Avia B. 534 is a unique combination of fabric-covered wings and steel structure. The fuselage as a whole is very aerodynamic, with an enclosed cockpit. This feature is required for operational flight limits exceeding 30,000.
Avia B. 534 would eventually fight against the invading German army, fight for the German army that conquered the Soviet Union, and eventually retire after serving several less prominent roles.
