The History of Drone Factory Penguin C
Today, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) - or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) - have found a home in every market around the world: military, security, law enforcement, research, humanitarian aid, and more. The Drone Factory produces a range of powerful drone platforms known as "Penguins", including the former Penguin B and now the Penguin C. The latter is designed with long range/long duration in mind and can provide up to 20 hours of flight time. 100 kilometers one way.
It is considered a "small" drone by FAA regulations (due to its 55-pound weight class) and is intended for professional use only. Model C has logged approximately 4,000 hours of flight time in various environmental conditions.
The Penguin C builds on the established (and proven) record-breaking framework in the earlier Penguin B model series and has since been used by dozens of operators worldwide. In 2012, the Type B achieved a world record flight of 54.5 hours.
The Penguin C is a complete system consisting of three Penguin C aircraft, a Ground Control Station (GCS) and a catapult launcher. For a complete kit, all of which is relatively easy to transport on the bed of a van or truck, and all associated parts add up to 585 pounds.
Airborne components rely on low-cost catapult launch (fully autonomous), managed by a two-crew crew via GCS. Use the parachute to recover the plane. As a result, Penguin C does not require very long runways to operate, keeping operating costs and requirements low. To recover, the aircraft carries a built-in estimation algorithm that signals the deployment of the parachute based on the expected landing site for precise positioning.
The preparation time to start one of the cars is less than an hour.
The aircraft itself features a streamlined, aerodynamically refined design with a high-position straight-wing main aircraft. The rear wing has an inwardly sloping vertical plane supported by a slender tail boom emanating from the trailing edge of the main plane of the wing.
The motor fittings are located at the rear of the fuselage, and the optics are held in a trainable bladder in the prone/chin position.
The UAV is powered by an internal turnkey UAV28 EFI fuel injection (FIE) engine designed as a fully interchangeable module allowing complete (quick) disassembly of the unit for service when the engine is in reserve or service abandoned in Its location - this allows the drone to stay online with as little downtime as possible. The powerplant was used to power a twin-blade engine in a "propeller" configuration at the rear of the fuselage.
The engine features a 100W onboard generator set, cold weather start capability and low noise (silent muffler installed).
The aircraft is capable of carrying a variety of gyro-stabilized optics for various mission types in all weather conditions and during daylight or low light times. The payload section also extends support for third-party products.
Data transmissions are encrypted for security, and the aircraft can reach altitudes of up to 10,000 feet, keeping the UAS silent to unsuspecting targets on the ground. This inherently powerful flexibility enables Penguin C to undertake tasks related to search, tracking, observation, general surveillance, observation and aerial inspections.
Penguin C is currently (2018) actively marketed by drone factories as a low-cost, all-round drone solution.
