UMS Skeldar / UMS Aero Group Introduced in February 2020, the "V-150" is a smaller, lighter and less expensive version of the earlier V-200 (described in detail elsewhere on this site). Both are modeled after a gyrocopter (helicopter) unmanned aerial system (UAS) and demonstrate the useful vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities inherent in conventional UAVs.
The "V-150" designation refers to its maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 150 kg and follows the development of the V-200 and V-350 air systems.
When finished, the V-150 has a barrel length of 10.5 feet and a rotor diameter of 11.5 feet, making it compact enough to operate an average Navy warship. In addition to its obvious military value, the type is considered ideal for the oil and gas industry, as a general-purpose UAS training solution, search and rescue (SAR) roles, signals intelligence (SIGINT) roles, and border protection/drug prohibition - any need A relatively compact, easy-to-use/maintain UAS product.
An electro-optical (EO)/infrared (OR) optical unit is mounted on the forward end of the fuselage (at the "chin" position) to provide real-time video processing/movement detection targets for ground commanders. The aircraft can also be equipped with various mission equipment, including enhanced (protected) communications and intelligence gathering. The device is divided into two bays, up to 12 kg at the front and 30 kg at the rear.
Additionally, the V-150 is also considered a modest back-up supplier with a payload capable of hauling cargo to forward operating units.
The V-150 was tested with a gasoline-powered turbo engine, although production form will feature a heavy-oil rotary engine. The power unit powers the three-bladed main rotor blades mounted on the fuselage and the two-bladed tail rotor unit facing starboard at the extreme end of the aircraft.
Currently, the aircraft has a mission endurance window of about 2.5 hours at altitude with a 12kg payload. The four-hour task duration is the goal of future revisions of the product. It can operate day or night in any weather.
The fuselage of the vehicle is as streamlined as possible for aerodynamic efficiency and to accommodate all associated systems. It is mounted on the ground via a four-point system attached to two landing skids on the bottom of the fuselage.
The V-150 was marketed alongside the larger, more expensive V-200 series, which itself was developed as an unmanned maritime helicopter system. The V-200 has so far (2020) been used in Canada, Germany, Indonesia and Spain.
