Benbrook, Texas-based AVX Aircraft promotes its "JMR" (Joint Multi-Role) platform for general troop/cargo transport and strike missions. The aircraft features a streamlined fuselage that tapers at both ends to accommodate two (side-by-side) crew members through a short nose assembly at the front and a two-piece powered cargo door at the rear. Lift is achieved by 2 x four bladed main rotor units coaxially (one on top of the other) on the fuselage, this arrangement (popular on many Russian Kamov helicopters) inherently offsets the two units The torque effect effectively eliminates the need for a dedicated rear rotor unit. In addition, the aircraft had ducted fans installed on the rear side of the fuselage to provide additional propulsion (hence the product being called a "compound" helicopter).
Wing posts are located directly above the cockpit and on each impeller unit for the desired level flight control. The aircraft is planned to use a multi-wheel retractable landing gear.
Standard operating staff is expected to consist of two pilots and two crew leaders.
The JMR can support a pivot-mounted 7.62mm Medium Machine Gun (MMG) or similar machine gun in the window position for point suppression in the landing zone (managed by the crew commander). Soldiers can exit the hovering aircraft (via a rope) via the rear loading ramp or side door.
The cargo bay is designed to accommodate two loaded pallets, up to a dozen medical stretchers and escorts, or fourteen combat-ready infantry with seven seats along two rows (staff seated face to face). Additionally, external sling loads of up to 13,000 lbs can be pulled.
The JMR is also deployed in an attack configuration with rocket pods, anti-tank missiles (ATGMs) and large-caliber trainable automatic cannons. These appear to be managed by a retractable feature above the belly of the aircraft, with four points reserved for air-launched munitions and one for the rotating automatic cannon.
Key marketing attributes of the JMR include superior speed and range (compared to conventional helicopter designs in its class), very compact design for improved storage on carriers etc., built-in multi-role/multi-mission capability from a single Airframe, inherently excellent low-speed maneuverability, easy embarkation and disembarkation of troops and cargo through two rear (and side) cargo doors, and extensive support for deployed U.S. military weapons and operating systems.
The current (April 2019) JMR has an empty weight of 18,2000 pounds, an MTOW of 28,000 pounds, a top speed of 236 knots, and a range of up to 2,100 nautical miles.
