History of JSC Spectator

"Spectator" is an all-weather unmanned aerial system (UAS) of Ukrainian origin. It is an unarmed UAV product with inherent versatility and can be used in military, civilian and industrial sectors covering border enforcement, search and rescue (SAR), general observation, maritime patrol and more.

The aircraft was developed by Politeko Aero LLC together with the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Chuguev Aircraft Repair Plant and made its maiden flight in 2014. Manufactured under the start-up brand JSC Meridian.

The Bystanders (especially the more advanced "Bystander-M" variant) are in active service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Ukrainian Air Force) as well as in the country's border services. The country has since adopted a fleet of around 60 airframes.

The aircraft has a traditional, completely traditional design layout with a slender fuselage at the center and rounded sides on the sides. The main aircraft is shoulder-mounted, located directly in front of the center of the boat, and each aircraft is covered by a winglet surface. The tail has a single vertical tail and a low horizontal plane.

A two-bladed propeller unit is mounted on the nose of the aircraft and powered by an internal electric motor. Like other UASs in this class, the aircraft is equipped with a suite of optics and can be modified to carry specific sensors and imagers to better meet mission requirements.

The dimensions of the aircraft include a barrel length of 4.25 feet, a wingspan of 9.84 feet and an MTOW (maximum take-off weight) of 12 pounds. The aircraft can reach speeds of 75 miles per hour and can reach up to 6,560 feet. Range up to 9 miles.

The original production variant was simply called The Spectator, and this version came out in 2014. This model was followed by an improved, slightly larger second-generation "spectator-M" before the end of the year - which allowed increased size and power to carry a larger payload.

The "Spectator-M1" has since become a lighter third generation offering thermal imaging mirrors, an improved recovery system and an expanded range. The model was launched in 2019 and officially entered service with the Ukrainian army in June 2020.

Main Aircraft Structure

Monoplane/Shoulder/Straight

Monoplane

Designed to use a single main wing main aircraft; this is the most popular arrangement of main aircraft.

Shoulder

The main aircraft is mounted on the upper part of the fuselage, usually on an imaginary line that intersects the pilot's shoulders.

Straight

Floor plans involve the use of simple, straight main plan elements.
