History
The FAdeA IA-100 is a two-seat propeller-based trainer being developed by Argentine industry. The design is largely based on the German Grob series "G-120" monoplane, with a composite structure, side-by-side seats and retractable landing gear. These aircraft are already in service with Argentina, Mexico, Israel and other countries - the Argentine Air Force itself already manages a fleet of about four G-120s, with ten more on order (2016).
The first flight of the FAdeA version is planned for sometime in 2016.
As planned, the IA-100 will retain many of the qualities of the G-120, including the seat layout and the use of lightweight but strong composite materials. It is said to have a total length of 7.8 meters, a wingspan of 9.4 meters and a height of 2.4 meters.
The kerb weight is said to be 640kg and the MTOW is 950kg. Power will come from a Lycoming AEIO-360 B1F inline engine with approximately 180 hp driving a twin-blade propeller unit on the nose.
Estimated performance specs include 200 mph cruising speed, up to 530 miles of range and 18,000 feet of service cap. The rate of climb is listed as 1,200 feet per minute.
For now, IA-100 products will be sold to the military and civilian markets as basic training for the former and light utility aircraft for the latter.
FAdeA is also working on the IA-73, another basic training aircraft (pilot and co-pilot seated) and other potential military priorities aimed at revitalizing Argentinas local aviation industry. The company was once known under the FMA brand and delivered the 1975 IA-58 "Pucara" and the 1988 IA-63 "Pampa".
