History
During World War II, Switzerland produced the EKW D-3801 fighter plane and later continued development with the Morane-Saulnier "MS.450" design. Collaborating with Dornier-Werke AG, a German company, they created the "D-3802" fighter jet in 1942. It featured a streamlined, single-seat, single-engine monoplane design with retractable landing gear and was armed with a 20mm automatic cannon and two machine guns per wing.
The D-3802 underwent modifications, resulting in the "D-3802A" version, which achieved speeds exceeding 400 miles per hour. However, with World War II ending, Switzerland no longer required a fully modern fighter, leading to the construction of only one prototype and 11 pre-production aircraft. These served until 1956 with the Swiss Air Force.
Additionally, a related variant, the "D-3803," was developed, but due to the post-war popularity of the North American P-51D Mustang, its development was cut short. As a result, the Swiss Air Force opted to purchase the P-51D Mustang to replace their local fighter designs.
