The market for light to medium commercial passengers is growing and technology is enabling completely new designs to enter the market and compete with established industry players. One such product is Israel's Eviation Aircraft's Alice, an all-electric platform in development to comfortably carry up to nine passengers over a range of 620 miles at speeds in excess of 275 mph. Alice used a three-engine "distributed" propulsion scheme consisting of electric motors arranged in a thrust configuration - the main unit was mounted at the rearmost end of the fuselage and a support unit located at each wingtip.
The engine drives the three-bladed propeller unit.
The aircraft had a flat, tubular fuselage with a tapered nose cone and rear. Above the nose is a two-seat (side-by-side) cockpit with widescreen windows for excellent cockpit visibility. The cabin is lined with oval windows and entry/exit points that define this section. The empennage consists of a "V-shaped" aircraft arrangement, which also serves as a rudder and horizontal stabilizer. The chassis is designed in typical tricycle form and can be fully retracted.
The avionics are a Garmin G5000, and flight control is aided by a fly-by-wire (FbW) control scheme.
Eviation Aircraft plans to design two different variants for its Alice: a basic commuter form for short "jumps", with a non-pressurized cabin, and the Alice ER (extended range), with more powerful engines and Pressurized cabin. Both versions will rely heavily on composite materials for durability and low operating weight (as much as 95% of aircraft will be done this way).
First flight planned for early 2019.
Officially listed specs include a service cap of 32,000 feet, speeds of up to 270 knots and an MTOW of 6,070kg. Dimensions include a length of 12 meters and a wingspan of 15.2 meters.
