History
Like other world powers after the First World War, the Polish government set out to acquire the popular Carden Lloyd "Tank" of British descent. In 1929, the military procured about ten versions of the Mark VI in an effort to further develop the locally-licensed "TK" series.
Light, maneuverable, and relatively inexpensive, these light tanks were used in a variety of flags, including those of the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan.
With the changing times in Europe, it was inevitable to think of replacing a rather limited small system. Therefore, the light tank "4TP" was developed as a direct successor. The design includes four wheels on one side of the chain, a front drive sprocket and a rear chain idler. There are two track return rollers to manage the upper track section.
The chassis was covered by a solid armored superstructure to accommodate the crew and fighting compartment. A 360-degree rotating turret is installed in the center of the top of the fuselage. The car was driven by two crew members, a driver and a commander - the commander was both gunner and loader and resided in the turret. The turret is fitted with 20 mm wz. FK-A main gun as main weapon and 7.92mm wz.
30 TMG machine gun coaxially mounted. Dimensionally, the 4TP measures 12.6 feet long, 6.8 feet wide and 5.7 feet high. It weighs 4.8 (short) tons. The armor protection of the thickest fairing is 17 mm.
The power to the tank is provided by a 1 x PZInz 425 4-stroke 6-cylinder in-line gasoline engine with 95 hp. This gives the hull a top speed of 34 mph and a range of 280 miles. The impeller is hung up for off-road trips.
4TP was created in 1937, also known as "PZInz 140". Polish authorities were so impressed with the indigenous designs that 480 prototypes were commissioned.
However, with the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 to begin World War II (the Soviet invasion a few weeks later), the 4TP initiative ended in failure.
