History of the AMX-10P
The AMX-10 was introduced in 1973 to replace the aging AMX-VCI line of infantry fighting vehicles. Design work on the new car began in the mid-1960s, with pilot vehicles available for evaluation and testing as early as 1968. The vehicle is used to fill various battlefield roles for the French military and has seen strong export figures to foreign parties - especially to Saudi Arabia, which has an inventory of 600 vehicles. Like other Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), the AMX-10P is designed to adapt to a variety of roles based on the needs of the buyer. A naval version of the AMX-10P was also released, with full amphibious support powered by mounted sprinklers.
These naval variants can also be fitted with a 12.7mm machine gun turret, a 25mm "DRAGAR" turret or a 90mm TS-90 series anti-tank turret.
AMX-10P - 20mm base variant of the cannon - in traditional IFV/APC form with very low profile, well sloping upper wing, front engine (front right) and rear-mounted fighting compartment. The turret is deployed on top of the fuselage, rotating 360 degrees, and the smoke grenade launcher is always on standby. The landing gear consists of five rubber tire wheels located on one side of the hull, with the drive sprocket at the front and the track idler at the rear, and the three track return rollers are partially covered by side armor skirts. Inside, the vehicle comes with the standard arrangement of three personnel, including the driver, commander and gunner.
Can carry eight passengers under armour protection from small arms fire and artillery jets.
It is powered by a 260 hp Hispano-Suiza HS 115 series water-cooled V8 diesel engine. It has a range of 600 km and a top speed of 65 km/h. A torsion bar suspension system aids off-road driving.
In its standard configuration (20mm gun), the vehicle carries 800 x 20mm projectiles and 2,000 x 7.62mm ammunition.
Other variants include turretless driving training vehicle, Milan Anti-Tank Missile (ATGM), fire support vehicle with 120mm mortar, command vehicle and 105mm tank killer.
In addition to the French and Saudi forces, the vehicle has been used in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece (since retirement), Indonesia, Iraq (many killed or scrapped in combat), Morocco, Qatar, Singapore (since retirement). ) and the United Arab Emirates.
