History

During World War II (1939-1945), the use of captured enemy tracked vehicles for other battlefield purposes proved to be the norm for the beleaguered German army. Czech pre-war LT vz. The 38 light tank was captured in large numbers, and the Czech company CKD eventually produced more than 1,400 of them for the German army, known as the Panzer 38(t).

Over time, the design was further developed into the reconnaissance armored vehicle 38 (2cm), SdKfz 140/1.

Due to its light weight and compact size, the 38(t) tank became less and less valuable on the battlefield as the war went on. Therefore, in order to meet the requirements of the armored "fast reconnaissance tank", it was decided to cover the line. Added an existing open-air turret for the 2 cm (20 mm) KwK 38 L/55 anti-tank gun, which houses the 7.92 mm MG42 coaxial machine gun. The turret was fitted with a mesh screen to protect the turret personnel from grenades. The engine brand is Praga, and the unit is a liquid-cooled 6-cylinder system with an output of 180 hp (up from the 150 hp unit originally installed on the Panzer 38(t) tank).

Road speeds can reach 28 mph and range is up to 130 miles. The crew of four faced cramped combat conditions. Radiofit is the best. F-Series Spr. Ger. Kit.

CKD delivered the first vehicles in October 1943, and a total of 70 were produced. They arrived the following March and were assigned to the Panzer Division at the end of 1944.

The series served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts until the end of the war in May 1945 - its 20mm gun proved ineffective against more advanced modern armour, but was suitable for light armoured vehicles and infantry.
