History
The BTR-94 is nothing more than a Ukrainian modification of the Soviet-era BTR-80 infantry fighting vehicle. As such, the system retains the same 8x8 wheel design and amphibious capabilities as the original. The BTR-94 differed in the use of a new, larger turret assembly with 2 x 23mm cannons and a coaxially mounted 7.62mm machine gun. The car entered service sometime in the late 1990s, with Jordan becoming the first foreign operator of the type.
They were soon joined by a rebuilding Iraqi army (through a Jordanian donation in 2004). The BTR-94 also retains the combat status of the Ukrainian army.
The BTR-94 weighs 15 tons and has a barrel length of 7.65 meters and a width of 2.90 meters. The height to the top of the tower is 2.80 meters. The BTR-94 consists of three dedicated standard aircrews including the driver, commander and gunner. Board with up to 10 combat-ready passengers and board through multiple side doors.
The appearance of the BTR-94 is very similar to the BTR-80 on which it is based, including sloping armor surfaces for inherent ballistic protection.
The primary weapon system is a pair of 23 x 115mm automatic cannons from the 2A7M series, providing the crew with 200 x 23mm projectiles. These guns are the same guns installed on the ZSU-23-4 "Shilka" air defense system in the 1960s.
These guns are supported by KT-7 series coaxial 7.62mm anti-infantry machine guns. Self-defense is further enhanced by 6 x 81mm smoke grenade launchers on the front of the turret.
Power is provided by a single diesel engine mounted in the rear of the fuselage producing up to 300 hp. This gives the APC a maximum speed of up to 85km and a range of up to 600km. The chassis is based on the BTR-80's large 8x8 street wheel arrangement for excellent off-road maneuverability.
A central tire adjuster adjusts individual tire pressure, and steering is done through the four front wheels.
The BTR-94 retains its flexible nature, allowing it to be quickly set up to enter water for traversal (at 9 km/h), and its gun mounts can be used for other armored systems. Water propulsion is provided by a single water jet at the stern.
These qualities make them a plus for any mobile modern army or police force today.
