Cannone da 47/32 M35

History

The Cannone da 47/32 M35 is based on the original Austrian design (designed by Bohler) and is a local replica of the Italian-made Army anti-tank/infantry field gun. It fires 47mm HEAT (High Explosive, Anti-Tank) and AP (Armor Piercing) projectiles capable of penetrating light vehicles.

The gun proved so effective that it became the main weapon of the Autoblinda AB 41 armored car, the Carro Armato M15/42 medium tank and the Semovente 47/32 self-propelled artillery platform.

The M35 features a traditional gun arrangement with a 47mm caliber and 32 gauge barrel (hence the "47/32" in the name) mounted to the mounting system. The recoil mechanism is integrated. A split trailing arm was also used to absorb some recoil. When the weapon system is to be moved by the vehicle, the towing arms come together. In combat position, the weapon weighs 610 pounds.

His travel weight is listed as 700 pounds. The overall length of the system is 5 feet 6 inches.

Mounting hardware allows a native elevation range of -15 to +56 degrees, with a lateral limit of 62 degrees (using the supplied handwheel). With standard AP rounds, the projectiles fired have a muzzle velocity of 2,065 feet per second (HEAT rounds measured altitude control at 820 feet per second).

With a maximum range of 7,700 yards, AP projectiles can reach an armor-piercing depth of 58mm and have a range of up to 100m.

The first production brand (Mod. 35) was equipped with semi-pneumatic disc wheels??. It wasn't until 1939 that a new brand appeared, this time the Mod. 39, with an improved wheel design.

Captured Italian guns serving in Germany (after the Italian surrender in September 1943) were designated 4.7 cm PaK 177(i) - the small "i" indicates their Italian origin.
