History of the M727 Eagle

The M727 is a tracked carrier vehicle designed to carry the Eagle guided missile system (commonly known as "SP-Hawk"). The tractor is essentially an improved version of the M548 family of tracked vehicles, retaining its suspension and high-performance traction system - developed by BAe and deployed in 1969 as the first mobile, medium-range, anti-aircraft, anti-aircraft, Eagle - developed for Guided missile system designed by the U.S.

The missile system of the M727 is Raytheon's MIM-23 Hawk - a medium-range surface-to-air missile munition that was associated with various radar systems during its service. The missile itself entered service with the M727 launch vehicle in 1960. Three of the larger missiles were mounted on the M727's movable turret, while the M501 loader-transporter was used to reload the missiles onto the turret system. Until 2002, the HAWK was largely replaced in the US Army by the MIM-104 Patriot. Likewise, the U.S.

Marine Corps has switched to the portable FIM-92 Stinger.
