History of Pandur II
The Pandur II infantry fighting vehicle is a further development of the commercially successful Pandur infantry fighting vehicle. Pandur II was developed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch from Austria as a private company. This armored vehicle is available in 6x6 and 8x8 configurations. It is in service with the Austrian Armed Forces.
Portugal ordered 260 8x8 armored vehicles in 2005. A total of 166 APCs were delivered, but orders for the remaining 94 were cancelled in 2012. It's worth noting that the Portuguese Pandour has a slightly different look.
The Czech Republic initially ordered 199 cars in 2006, but that number has since been reduced to 107.
The Pandur II is available in a variety of models and can be adapted to different turret systems. Baseline 6x6 APCs are designed to transport 3 and 6 soldiers.
The car's steel armor is resistant to 7.62mm armor-piercing rounds. Optional additional armor protects against 14.5mm armor-piercing rounds. Debris lining and improved lightning protection are available as options. The base vehicle has a flat floor and is not well protected against mines. However, the Czech version has a ?-shaped bottom.
Compared to the traditional V-shaped bottom, it is upside down. It is believed that such a shape did not reflect the explosion of a mine on the passenger. NBC protection and an automatic fire suppression system are also optional.
Can carry a variety of weapons up to 90mm caliber. The Pandur II 8x8 can carry up to 12 soldiers and can be armed with weapons up to 105mm caliber.
The Pandur II APC has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The vehicle is powered by a 285 hp Cummins ISC diesel engine. Both 6x6 and 8x8 variants use the same engine. Under field conditions, it can be removed and replaced within 30 minutes. Another 400 hp diesel engine is available as an option.
Some variants of the Pandur II are fully amphibious. They come with two water nozzles and a trimming blade. The vehicle can be flown with the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
