History

System - The 105mm Mobile Weapon System (MWS) is the lightest and most maneuverable self-propelled howitzer in the world today. The system consists of a US Army standard M20 105mm cannon mounted on an M1152A1w/B2 HMMWV.

The weapon includes the application of a digital fire control system and airborne communications, eliminating the need to monitor firing points, target circles and cables.

Mission The organization of the 105MWS battery is designed to suppress, neutralize and destroy ground forces and structures in indirect and direct fire modes. The system allows weapons to be moved, fired and moved again without relying on heavy equipment or large troop/logistics support.

The HMMWV platform supports this mission by providing unprecedented off-road mobility on all types of terrain.

Tactical Mobility - The strategic deployability and flexibility of the system enhances overall survivability, allowing it to move and deploy quickly before being adversely affected by counter-battery fire and other aggressive offenses ("fire and Glide") stock convention.

Low/Life Cycle Costs - The simplicity of the design allows a small logistical "footprint". Crew maintenance is minimal and critical components/components can be easily replaced with line replacement units.
