History

Czech Republic/Czech Republic The BVP series are classic Soviet-era BMP-1/BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) described elsewhere on this site. This model retains the same battlefield form and function, but introduces an all-new track and suspension design in its newer model (BVP-2) to better meet modern standards and enhance off-road capability.

Mobile shooting has also been added, with the main armament concentrated in a movable turret above the hull, with a 30mm automatic cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm PKT series infantry machine gun. The vehicle is airliftable and amphibious - making it a tactically flexible solution.

The undercarriage consists of six rubber tire wheels on one side of the body, drive sprockets at the front and track idlers at the rear. Three chain deflection rollers are used upstream of the chain link.

The vehicle retains the same flat front sloping plate as the original and mounts the power pack on the front right, so the driver sits on the front left. The two-person turret contained a vehicle commander and gunner, and passengers could be carried in the rear of the fuselage, with access allowed through a pair of outward-opening hinged doors on the rear surface of the fuselage.

In addition to standard armament, the roof carries a 14.5mm Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) for defense against low-flying threats and lightly armored vehicles. The grenade launcher provides the vehicle with self-defense capabilities.

Former Czechoslovakia uses BVP in several variants and sub-variants, including the original BVP-1. The BVP-1K is a command vehicle, while the BPzV "Svatava" is optimized for reconnaissance missions. VZ.

The 85 ShM-120 PRAM-S is a 120mm armed mortar carrier and the BVP-1 AMB-S is an armoured battlefield ambulance. The VPV form is an Armored Rescue Vehicle (ARV) conversion, while the SVO is a minesweeper.

The OT-90 carried the main turret of the OT-64A tank and machine gun, but lost its amphibious character.

The modern Czech Republic uses the BVP-1MA, which is a modernized version of the original BVP-1, although it features a German-made one-man laterally mobile turret with additional smoke grenade launchers. It was upgraded from the "Tania" variant of the Calibre and modernized with sub-variant designations OT-90 M1, M2 and M3.

BVP-1SM is a modified armored battlefield ambulance, BVP-1PPK / PzPK "Snezka" is an artillery reconnaissance platform. The OT R-5 "Becva" is a communications vehicle and the BVP-1 LOS is a dedicated reconnaissance type.

The disposable MGC-1 is a survivability-enhancing vehicle equipped with a machine gun and carrying Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) blocks.

The BVP will return to service in the modern Czech army in 2022. Up to 145 BVP-1 brands are stored/reserved and 185 BVP-2 versions are used as the primary first-line solution.

Amphibious Assault

Cross open water under your own power with or without preparation.

Infantry Support

Support allied ground forces using weapons, inherent capabilities, and/or shipborne systems.

Recon

Can perform reconnaissance/reconnaissance missions to assess threat levels, enemy strength, etc. - usually due to lightweight construction.

Notable Features

Crawler layout

The vehicle uses a track wheel arrangement to provide improved off-road capability.

Main Tower

This vehicle is of modern tank quality and its main armament is housed in a turret.

Drive-through owner weapon

The weapon is located in the traversing module and can counter the enemy threat in all directions.

Increased recoil

The main gun has an integrated recoil mechanism that allows the system to remain in training after firing at the target.

Shoot anytime, anywhere

Airborne systems of modern quality ensure the accuracy of the main weapon and allow firing on the move.

Amphibious

The system can enter and traverse open water sources - rivers, lakes and streams; supports amphibious assault operations.

Cross-country skiing

The design includes features such as a chain linkage system or high ground clearance for better traversing of terrain.

Improved armor protection

Increased protection by installing additional armor on top of the standard grade; old-design steel plates and modern types of reactive armor.

ABC Protection

Crew are protected (standard or optional) by nuclear biological and chemical agents to improve survivability in contaminated areas.

Smoke shield

The vehicle itself can generate a smoke screen either through fired projectiles or built-in engine function (raw fuel injection).

Night Vision

Night vision equipment is available to the crew to allow operation in low light conditions or at night.

Available for air defense/air defense

The system will receive an air defense component to protect itself from low-flying threats from afar.

Anti-tank capability

Airborne solutions provide the ability to neutralize armored or hardened targets remotely using missiles or penetrating ballistic weapons.

Anti-Infantry

Vehicles have built-in anti-infantry capabilities for local vehicle defense or general troop suppression.

troop transport vehicle

Vehicles (or variants thereof) have inherent troop transport capabilities and provide protective cover for allies boarding ships in disputed areas.

Muzzle

The vehicle allows the occupants to attack external targets within the range (and safety) of the vehicle.

Versatility

The vehicle's proven chassis and overall configuration are ideal for other battlefield roles through special design.
