History
The S-80 Plus Class (or Isaac Peral Class) are four submarines of the Spanish class - designed in the late 1990s, originally commissioned 2003 In 2019, redesigned/rebuilt in the mid-2010s and currently in production - built by the Spanish state-owned company Navantia at its Cartagena shipyard for the Spanish Navy. Like other contemporary submarines, they have air-independent propulsion.
These are medium tonnage ocean-going submarines that are capable of long missions far from their bases and do not act lightly. They will have an integrated platform controller, allowing operation with less equipment and a high level of automation via remote control.
The characteristics of this class bring it close to the level of the core engine.
The first-in-class ship Isaac Peral (S-81) is the first of the series, built by 22 Cartagena shipyards, originally scheduled to be commissioned in 2011 and scheduled to be commissioned in 2023. The remaining three ships are scheduled for delivery in 2024, 2026 and 2028.
The S-80 class is also available for export.
