The Type 052D (Luyang III) is a guided missile destroyer of the surface forces of the People's Liberation Army (PLAN) and one of the Navy's capital ships to serve as a service asset available. The Type 052D is a slight redesign of a series of warships, starting with the earlier Type 052 (Luhu-class), followed by the Type 052B (Luyang I-class) and Type 052C (Luyang II-class) models - the series is being further developed in capability and quantitatively.
The current (2020) Type 052D design is represented by more than 25 planned ships in the group, of which 16 are in active service and the rest are equipped with this class. Among them are the central Hohhot (161),
In 2019, the Chinese Navy Honghot officially joined the Chinese Navy and was assigned to the South China Sea Fleet today (2020) to remain active.???
The ship features a fully modern design incorporating the latest Chinese stealth technology, weapons and sensor/processing systems. The warship has a displacement in the 7,500-ton range, a bow-to-stern length of 528 feet, a beam of 56 feet, and a draft of up to 20 feet.
The propulsion scheme is a combination diesel or gas, better known as CODOG, which allows the propulsion system to work with either engine type to save fuel and make the vessel more efficient, depending on the action required (generally cruising or cambering) ). Propulsion is provided at the stern with two axles to provide a total speed of nearly 30 knots.
With a crew of approximately 280 on board, the installed systems include a Type 346 AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) and a Type 518 L-band long-range air search radar. In addition, there are variable depth sonar systems and towed devices that allow warships to strike targets in the air, on the water or underwater.
Weapons are the heart of each destroyer, revolving around a 64-cell Vertical Launch System (VLS) that houses the HHQ-9 Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) and YJ-18. and CY-5 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) solutions. A 24-cell HQ-10 short-range SAM system carries additional anti-aircraft weapons.
Conventional armament includes a 130mm turret mounted deck gun and two Type 1130 close-in weapons systems (CIWS).
Above the stern is a combined helipad/hangar deck area providing full service for two medium helicopters in service at sea. These aircraft can be equipped for search and rescue (SAR), resupply, medical evacuation and anti-submarine warfare (ASW)/anti-ship operations as required by the service.
In addition, the ship exudes a sleek, modern look that rivals Western ship designs. The forecastle is relatively underdeveloped, spanning to the bridge superstructure. Deck guns and turrets are located above the forecastle, and the 64-cell VLS is directly aft.
The stern is the viaduct section, which also integrates the enclosed main mast and associated sensors, communication systems and radar equipment. The chimney has a low profile, closed design and is located amidships. The stern is the stern structure that continues the full hull line into the hangar area.
In this case a SAM launcher is installed. The back of the warship came down, revealing the helipad.
CNS Hohhot (161) has so far performed notable service in the South China Sea, mentioned in several PLA press releases. The ship has the capability to operate independently or as part of an equally lethal main battle fleet and act as a deterrent to Western operations in the region.
Its shallow draft also enables it to support offshore-based amphibious operations, using its diverse arsenal to target air and domestic threats.
