History of the Beretta RS-200

The Beretta RS-200 series are short-barreled pump-action shotguns used by the Italian army and security forces. Its versatility and relatively light weight allow the use of a wide variety of conventional shotgun rounds that can be fired, including crowd control gas and rubber "bullets" as well as shot and standard rounds. Like most other sport and combat shotguns, the tubular magazine holds six or seven rounds of ammunition, each loaded individually and fired with a slide-pump action. The RS-200 base weapon features a wooden stock that doubles as a pistol grip.

The spent cartridges are ejected from the right side of the main body.

The RS-200P is considered the base model of the series, with a plastic stock. A civilian version of RS-200 appeared, named RS-202P.

The safety/military model RS-202M1 has a folding stock, while the similar RS-202M2 also has a folding stock, but differs from the M1 by adding a flash suppressor and heat shield, the latter located above the barrel.

Civilian RS-202P models feature a wooden walnut stock with sling swivel attached to the front of the weapon and to the stock base. Aiming is usually accomplished with a rail above the barrel, which is further emphasized by a fluorescent target ball directly in front of the rail.

The RS-202P is also available in 20.5" and 24.5" barrel lengths and uses a 6-round tubular magazine instead of 7. Unlike the RS-200 series, the RS-202 series also has a feature that allows the operator to manually load or unload shells into the chamber without relying on pump push rod action.
