The Beretta RS-200 series are an Italian short-barreled, pump-action shotgun utilized by military and security forces. Its versatility and relative light weight allow for the use of a variety of conventional shotgun rounds to be fired including crowd control gas rounds and rubber "bullets" along with buckshot and standard slugs. Like most other sport and combat shotguns, the tubular magazine contains the six or seven ammunition rounds of choice and each are individually loaded for firing through the sliding pump action. The base RS-200 weapon features a wooden buttstock which doubles as the pistol grip. Spent shell casings are ejected from the right-side of the main body.
The RS-200P is noted as the base form in the series and features a plastic stock. A civilian version of the RS-200 appeared with the designation of RS-202P. The security/military RS-202M1 model is fitted with a folding stock while the similar RS-202M2 also has a folding stock but is differentiated from the M1 by the addition of a flash suppressor and heat shield, the latter positioned above the barrel.
The civilian RS-202P model featured a wooden walnut stock with sling swivels allocated to the front of the weapon and at the base of the stock. Aiming is conventional through a rib over the barrel which is further accentuated by a fluorescent aiming ball just forward of the rib. The RS-202P also comes in 20.5" and 24.5" barrel lengths and utilizes a 6-round tubular magazine instead of the seven. The RS-202 series, unlike the RS-200 series, also has a feature where the operator can manually load or unload a shell into/from the chamber without relying on the pump slide action.
All forms of the weapon weigh in between 3 kilograms and 3.26 kilograms.
