History
For a while, the Chinese armed forces were equipped with shoddy but effective Type 64 silenced pistols. The weapon is designed around a basic recoil principle. During recoil, the process utilizes the energy provided by the backward movement of the cartridge case during firing (due to the air pressure provided by the bottom of the cartridge case) directed towards the unlocked bolt inwards. The most notable design feature of the Type 64 silenced pistol is the use of a permanently attached Maxim silencer assembly mounted on the barrel. This gave the Type 64 a rather ugly and functional look, with the pistol grip and trigger assembly looking traditional to the trained eye.
The silencer is used to trap the expanding gas leaving the projectile as it pushes the assembly down. The end result is a subsonic output due to the reduced muzzle velocity, resulting in very little audible noise. The breech can be locked, which limits the sound of moving the breech during the firing process (the spent cartridge cannot be ejected until the breech is unlocked again). The Type 64 silenced pistol is combined with a unique low power (900 ft/s muzzle velocity) Type 64 frameless 7.65x17mm cartridge, which is not interchangeable with other 7.65mm ammunition.
The weapon is fed from a detachable 8-round magazine.
All in all, the Type 64 Suppressed Pistol is a functional system designed to neutralize Sentinels, high-ranking personnel and any other type of valuable human target. Due to the inherent structural nature of such silenced weapons, their use is mainly limited to specialized units, such as B. Special forces with limited elements. Additionally, the use of silencers often makes them bulky sidearms and further limits their useful range in the wild. The use of strict ammunition types also limits the logistical friendliness of the weapon.
However, these limitations are offset by the high degree of stealth of such weapons, allowing agents to deal with unsuspecting targets at will and maintain the element of raid missions for a period of time.
While the names of the two pistols are similar to the "Type 64" pistol, an indigenous semi-automatic pistol design used by the Chinese army and police, sources say they are completely separate and distinct products.
The Type 64 silenced pistol eventually evolved into the refined 67 series, with a less dramatic, lighter weight silencer assembly that fits neatly into the angled frame while retaining the Type 64's internals. This version also includes the 7.65x17mm Type 64 cartridge.
