History of the M4-WAC-47

A joint venture between American Aeroscraft (Worldwide Eros Corporation) and Ukraine Ukroboronprom developed the state-of-the-art M4-WAC-47 assault rifle "manufacturing". This product is a bridge solution between Ukraine's aging stock of Soviet-era Kalashnikov series AKM/AK-47 assault rifles used for decades and the Western-oriented AR-15/M16/M4 assault rifle series, after This has led Ukraine to seek a closer NATO alliance in the shadow of Russian aggression.

The M4-WAC-47 uses 5.45mm and 7.62mm cartridges common to Soviet firearms (such as those readily available in Ukrainian stocks), with the aim of eventually retrofitting the gun to the standard 5.56mm NATO cartridge.

The rifle shares the proven exterior and interior features of the AR15/M16/M4 series, with the notable exception of the extended curved magazine - in M16 style, although it relies on Soviet cartridges. Compared to the standard American M4 carbine, the M4-WAC-47 also has a longer 16-inch barrel assembly to compensate for the more powerful Soviet 7.62mm cartridge, and this assembly is also lined with a perforated heat shield for Barrel cooling wraps around the length of the barrel.

The receiver, trigger group and adjustable shoulder rest are all M16 style and function, as is the slotted muzzle brake on the business end of the rifle.

The weapon also accepts an under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) in the form of a 40mm M203 grenade launcher, with the magazine used as a grip. Both the receiver and heat shield feature a length of Picatinny rail for mounting accessories such as telescopes, flashlights, and specialized optics.

The upper rail extends from the receiver to just past the muzzle, while the lower mount runs the length of the heat shield and ends at the frame/magazine rail.

Eventually, the series will feature a shortened carbine assault form, as well as an elongated Designated Marksman (DM) rifle model.

The M4-WAC-47 was tested for active service by Ukrainian ground forces in late 2018.
