History
The QBZ-191 is a modular assault weapon developed for the Chinese army. It serves as a versatile firearm that can function as an assault rifle, assault carbine, or designated marksman rifle. It was introduced in 2019 to replace the QBZ-95 in the Chinese Armed Forces.
The QBZ-191 uses a unique 5.8 x 42mm intermediate cartridge and is classified as a support weapon in the Chinese army's inventory. Its design features a traditional layout with a rectangular receiver, a ribbed front end, and an AK-style curved magazine. The pistol grip and trigger unit are located in the front of the magazine feeder, and the charging handle and ejection port are on the right side.
Internally, the rifle utilizes a short stroke pneumatic breech block, similar to the AK, providing a rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute. It has a 14.5-inch barrel and can be fed from a detachable 30-round magazine or a 75-round drum. The rifle also features a Picatinny rail for attaching various optics and can accommodate front and rear sights as backup.
Additionally, there is a variant called the QBZ-192, which is an assault carbine with a shorter 10.5-inch barrel for improved compactness. Selected marksman rifle models have a longer barrel and M-LOK handguard, allowing for greater accuracy up to approximately 900 yards.
Overall, the QBZ-191 is a modular assault weapon developed by China for its armed forces, offering flexibility and versatility in different combat roles.
