History of S&T Motiv (Daewoo) K5

In the 1970s and 1980s, the South Korean military made a concerted effort to reduce foreign reliance on systems and products and encourage local industrial development. This has resulted in a wide variety of indigenous products, including main battle tanks, armoured vehicles, aircraft, helicopters and small arms.

In the latter, a complete "K-Weapon" series was developed, and the lineup included the "K5" semi-automatic pistol as a standard weapon for South Korean fighters.

The K5 is a no-frills military pistol that utilizes proven features found in other global pistols. Daewoo Precision Industries conducted design work from 1984 to 1988 and started manufacturing (under the S&T Motiv brand) in 1989. The initial prototype was designated "XK5", resulting in the standardized production model "K5". As a result, the civilian market model "DP51" (semi-compact and compact) was released. The commercial successor DH40 for . 40 S&W and DH45 followed.

45 AKP rooms. The LH9C and LH9 Mk II models modernize the DP51.

The sidearm holds the ubiquitous 9x19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge, and the semi-automatic action manages the flow of bullets from the spring magazine (inserted into the bottom of the pistol grip) to the firing chamber. Externally, the weapon is traditionally equipped with a long tube slide (ribbed at the rear), frame sights and an under-floor trigger. Safety and magazine controls are located on the side of the receiver.

Usually fed from a 13- or 15-round detachable magazine. Depending on the model used, other counter values ??are also supported.

The total weight is approximately 26 oz and the length is 178mm (barrel length is 104mm). Effective range is 55 yards.

K5 is also issued to SWADS in Bangladesh and KOPASSUS Special Forces in Singapore. Both Guatemala and Indonesia started using the K5 in 2011.
