History of the FIAT-Revelli Modello 1914

The FIAT-Revelli Modello 1914 (Machine Gun, System Revelli, Model 14) was the first large Italian machine gun designed and developed by the locals. However, the system was an odd combination of design choices that ultimately resulted in an unreliable weapon system during World War I (1914-1918). In any case, the Italians - like many armies at the time - desperately needed a pistol of any kind to go to war and procured a large number of FIAT Revelli Model 1914 pistols, which they used as front-line weapons against their warring enemies in Austria - Hungary and Germany.

The Model 1914 was updated in the 1930s to the FIAT-Revelli Modello 1935 and its service in World War II (1939-1945) made the Model 1914 one of the "special" weapons used in both world wars. Finally available The Type 1914/1935 guns were eventually scrapped in 1945.

Although its official name is 1914, the Modello 1914 was actually tested in the Italian army possibly in 1908, but the system was not adopted until after it was used in the First World War. This gun was entirely designed by Revelli, simply with the FIAT name attached as the manufacturer.
