History

The Chinese defense company NORINCO produced the HJ-73 "Red Arrow," which is based on the Soviet 9M14 "Malyutka" anti-tank missile. The HJ-73 has four main variants: the basic HJ-73, HJ-73B with SACLOS guidance, HJ-73C featuring SACLOS and standoff probe assemblies for better armor penetration, and HJ-73D with SACLOS and a tandem high-explosive armor-piercing warhead. This missile system, originally designed in the early 1960s, has seen extensive use in various wars, demonstrating its versatility against armored and unarmored vehicles, as well as fortified positions. It has an effective range of 500 to 3,000 yards and can be launched from ground-based launchers, vehicles, or aircraft.

Despite its age, the HJ-73 "Red Arrow" remains relevant in modern warfare, and the Chinese military maintains a substantial inventory of these systems. This missile travels at speeds of 115-130 meters per second, allowing it to engage targets effectively. Its adaptability and widespread use in past conflicts make it a noteworthy military asset with a proven track record on the battlefield.
