History of the Mendoza Type 45

While the original Mendoza C-1934 light machine guns had been in circulation with the Mexican army before and during World War II, the Mexican army found itself in possession of a large number of American supplies . 30-06 Cartridge. The two countries have close ties on arms sales, and the global war has spurred a variety of defense-oriented military production, often resulting in a surplus.

While the original C-1934 series used the Spanish 7x57mm Mauser cartridge, that cartridge must now be past its heyday, opening up a logistically sound move for the Mexican military to stockpile Existing guns to load American fire cartridges.

Raphael Mendoza and his company Productos Mendoza set out to work on an improved form of his C-1934 to produce a full-power new light machine gun designed for Americans. 30-60 (30 caliber M1906) rifle cartridge.

The barrel assembly is shorter and more compact, and is additionally covered with a perforated muzzle brake to eliminate recoil. The receiver has been better cleaned while retaining all the good qualities inherent in the C-1934: ease of production, low cost of manufacture and light weight.

The gun is also fired from a similar 20-round capacity magazine that is set on top of the receiver, and due to this placement, the iron sights are offset to bypass the vertical magazine. The new light machine gun became the "Mendoza Model 45" in 1945.
