History
The M6 ??"Crew Survival Rifle" is the official successor to the early 1949 M4 design (detailed elsewhere on this page) and was designed specifically to arm the United States Air Force (USAF) is manufactured. The pilot was unfortunately shot down behind enemy lines.
The idea behind the original approach was to equip these survivors with small-caliber light weapons to hunt small prey when rescue efforts were extended. While the original M4 was a bolt-action rifle developed by Harrington and Richardson Arms from their civilian sports shooter, the subsequent M6 product came from gunmaker Ithaca and featured a "break action" that supported both calibers "The upper barrel arrangement.
Like the M4 before it, the M6 ??still has the . 22 Hornet cartridge and also directs the underlay barrel to fire the more powerful . 410 shotgun round.
The M6's design roots date back to 1946, at the end of World War II (1939-1945), when it was developed under the leadership of the former United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). The program provided a combined weapon containing small calibers.
22 Weapons With the shotgun, a variety of game species can be successfully hunted. In its original form, this weapon was known as a "Rifle-Shotgun, Survival, Caliber .22/.410". It was not until the 1950s that the design was formally finalized and officially put into service.
The M6 ??retains a rifle-like configuration with a skeletonized stock frame, center receiver and forward-sloping barrel assembly. Iron sights are mounted fore and aft along the gun's backline to ensure accuracy when firing.
The hammer protrudes from the rear of the receiver in a conventional fashion, and the trigger lever system is located under the rifle-grip/stock grip for better use with gloved master hands. The structure is made of stamped steel to control weight and cost, while rubber is used for the recoil and cheeks to give the operator some comfort while firing.
With an overall weight of 4.5 lbs and an overall length of 28.27 inches, it is easy to carry on the march. When the weapon is folded down, the length has been reduced to a more manageable 15 inches. The detachable barrel assembly accounts for 14 inches of the overall length of the gun. The weapon has a maximum range of 100 meters. 22 Hornet and shrink to 25 meters.
410 case. The muzzle velocity is 834 meters per second and 345 meters per second, respectively. The operator can select the weapon to fire by controlling the firing pin selector.
Weapons can carry a maximum of nine. 22 Hornet cartridges with four. There are 410 shells in the hollow shaft. The break action design allows access to the chamber for loading/reloading in a traditional shotgun fashion. So this gun is more or less a single/dual-shot reusable weapon.
The Ithaca Gun Company manages the production of firearms exclusively for the United States Air Force. The M6 ??was in use from 1952 until it was scrapped in the 1970s.
