History
ST Motiv (Daewoo) "K6" Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) is the standard HMG of the Korean Armed Forces. It is a locally produced copy of the legendary American M2 Browning heavy machine gun and thus uses the same form and function as its widely used counterpart.
Visually, the K6 closely mimics its longevity brethren, including its rear spade handle, plate side receiver and short perforated barrel jacket surrounding the long air-cooled barrel assembly. Like the M2, the K6 is deployed in a variety of waystripod mounted for continuous fire, vehicle mounted for trainable suppressive fireand can be used against enemy infantry, light armored vehicles, and low-flying threats.
The weapon system is loaded with a 12.7x99mm cartridge and is fed from a single magazine - a proven cartridge with inherently strong penetration at range.
The Korean Army ROTEM K1 Main Battle Tank (MBT) uses the K6 as a trainable roof-mounted anti-aircraft (AA) machine gun.
