History

The AT-7 "Saxhorn," also known as "9K115 Metis," is a portable anti-tank missile system that was developed to work alongside the AT-4 "Spigot" family of missile systems. It has been used by over 30 countries, including Soviet-aligned nations. The AT-7 is operated by a two-person team, with one managing the optics and launcher, and the other reloading the missile tube. The system's design has evolved to include a lighter missile and a simplified tripod, enhancing its portability.

Introduced in 1979, the AT-7 Saxhorn retains the overall appearance of its predecessor, the AT-4. However, it introduces advancements such as improved missiles built to modern standards. These missiles are wire-guided, with a maximum range of around 1,000 meters and a minimum safe distance of 40 meters. The missile's warhead is designed to target tanks and weighs approximately 5.5 pounds.

An upgraded version known as the "AT-13 Saxhorn-2" or "9K115-2 Metis-M" was introduced in 1992. This iteration features a heavier missile with a larger warhead, allowing for better penetration and increased effectiveness against armored targets. The AT-7 and its variants continue to be in service in various countries, including Croatia, Hungary, Iran, Moldova, Poland, and Syria.
