S&T Motiv (Daewoo) XK9 / XK10 (DS9A)

History

The S&T Daewoo XK9 marked the development of a new submachine gun design for South Korean special forces and general military personnel. This type of chamber holds the ubiquitous 9x19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge, fed by a straight, detachable 30-round magazine.

Functionally, it was designed to mimic the functionality of Heckler & Koch's famous German MP5 series, which is widely used around the world but seems to have only achieved its Korean product development form in or around 2003.

The XK10 becomes an offshoot of the XK9, with a foldable skeletal stock and a more compact size for easy maneuvering in tight spaces. As of this writing, the XK9/XK10 project appears to be over. It is also mentioned in some sources under the name "DS9A".

At its core, the weapon fires from a recoil operating system at a rate of 980 rounds per minute. The submachine gun weighs about 3 kg empty and has an overall length of 680 mm. The XK9's barrel is 220mm long and has an effective range of up to 150m

Externally, the weapon has a traditional layout with a sloping pistol grip behind the action, a forward-set magazine well and a generally rectangular receiver. Depending on the model, the stock can be solid or skeletal, and a rail section is added above the receiver for mounting optics or tactical gear.

Like the MP5, the barrel of the XK9 is mounted lower in the front end.
