CNPMIEC FeiNn-6 (HongYing-6) / FN-6 (Flying Crossbow) History

The FeiNU-6 (FN-6 or HongYinh-6) is an indigenously-designed and produced third generation man-portable Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system of China. The weapon is similar in battlefield scope to the American FIM-92 "Stinger" and Russian 9K338 "Igla" series shoulder-launched missile products. The Chinese FN-6 relies on passive infrared to achieve its engagement, tracking and destruction of low-flying aircraft, primarily helicopters and attack aircraft. Its name translates to "Flying Crossbow".

Overall weight of the FN-6 (complete system) is approximately 16 kilograms with a running length of 1,500mm and caliber of 72mm. Maximum firing range is 6,000 meters while the missile can reach up to 3,800 meters, flying at speeds nearing 600 meters-per-second while propelled by a single-stage solid-fueled rocket motor.

The base FN-6 MANPAD family has since grown to include several related forms: The FN-16 debuted in late 2008 as an improved product with increased accuracy and reliability. The HN-6 has come along supporting new optics and Fire Control System (FCS). Performance has, once again, been improved through this new mark. The FN-6A has been forged as part of a vehicle-mounted, turret-operated variant supported by a 12. 7mm Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) for local defense. The ZBL-09 ADS is a similar-minded Air Defense System (ADS) revealed in late 2012 relying on the FN-16 missile (tube-launched) system coupled to a 30mm Gatling-style autocannon.
