History

The Cordova 9mm is a service/safety pistol, invented by Indumil in Colombia, locally designed, developed and produced as a replacement for the Italian Beretta 92FS semi-automatic pistol. The system is conventional in design and layout, accommodates 9x19mm NATO pistol cartridges, and operates via an internal semi-automatic short-term recovery system (single-action/double-action capability).

There are currently three models of pistols on the market, referred to as Standard, Tactical and Compact.

Their general design follows established principles that have been well known since the advent of the famous Browning 1911 at the beginning of the last century. The metal slide rests on a reinforced polymer frame, giving the pistol a manageable weight and the sturdiness expected of such a weapon on the battlefield. The pistol grip is hollowed out to accommodate the magazine through its base.

The rear of the frame has a graceful curve for recoil above the operators hands. The hammer protrudes from the rear of the frame, and nearby is the safety mechanism, which clearly indicates the current operator of the weapon ("white is correct, red is dead"). The removal handle is visible on the side of the frame, with ribs embedded in the front and rear of the frame itself. The trigger ring is solid and protects the curved trigger unit.

The thumb operated magazine release is easily accessible from the trigger area. Sights (backlight for low light operation) are placed front and rear along the top of the receiver in the usual way - tritium-based sights are optional.

The ejection port is located in the center of the slider above the pistol.

The Cordova is equipped with a cartridge case indicator that clearly shows the operator whether a cartridge is loaded. The handle is ergonomically designed with an interchangeable beveled texture pattern.

A MIL_STD 1913 accessory rail is located on the front of the frame, allowing the mounting of various tactical products such as laser pointers and flashlights. The frame is designed to be ambidextrous and can be played with left- or right-handed players without modifying the weapon.

The standard model weighs 680 grams, is 7.8 inches long, and has a 4.4 inches barrel. The magazine is available in a variety of flavors covering the needs of the civilian and law enforcement markets, with the first containing 9 prepped rounds and the second a full 15 rounds. The marketing also mentions a 10-round magazine capacity form.

The tactical product weighs 715 grams, is 8.97 inches long, and has a 5-inch barrel length. The smallest in the range, the compact weighs 655 grams, has an overall length of 6.9 inches, and a 3-inch barrel - perfect for concealed carry.
