History of ADCOM Systems United 40

In the military-focused drone space, the Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are entering with their ambitious ADCOM Systems United 40 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). United 40 is currently envisioned as an intelligence gathering, reconnaissance and communications relay platform capable of supporting a variety of operations including special forces, regular armed forces and humanitarian relief efforts.

It is conceivable that the system will also evolve along a more direct combat platform route, capable of carrying ammunition into combat and self-targeting - currently four featured underwing hardpoints will be used to carry mission pods (100kg per station) wear. Total payload capacity (including interior) is said to be 2,200 pounds.

Perhaps the most unique physical feature of the United 40 is its serpentine hull, which curves down behind the front to create a prominent valley. The tail is then raised slightly to complete the shape, installing a vertical tail without the tail. At the very end of the design, a three-bladed propeller blade can be seen, arranged in a "propeller" configuration. The air intakes are also located on the rearmost sides of the fuselage. The main wing unit of the Joint 40 is also of particular importance as there are two single main aircraft - one at the front and the other at the rear.

Viewed from the side, the front is taller than the rear, and both have a low-aspect-ratio design similar to a glider. Dimensionally, the United 40 measures 11 meters in length, with a wingspan of 20 meters and a height of 4.4 meters.

The undercarriage is a retractable tricycle arrangement that confines the United 40's operation to a ready escape. The vehicle has an empty weight of 1,150 pounds and a maximum takeoff weight of 3,300 pounds.

For now, the United 40 will be powered by a twin-engine unit, the main engine unit being a conventional unit rated at 115 hp. This will be combined with an electrical system up to 80 hp.

All told, the United 40 is said to have a speed of between 75 and 200 km/h - a range based on available marketing materials from ADCOM Systems. In addition, its service ceiling is expected to reach approximately 7,000 meters (23,000 feet), while mission durations are expected to reach approximately 120 hours of continuous operation.
