History

Breguet Br. The 5-series biplane bomber was from the Breguet Br. 4. The Br. 5 was operated by a two crew, with the pilot in the center of the aircraft and the gunner/observer in the front.

Defensive armament consists of a 7.7mm machine gun in the standard role, but can be replaced by a more powerful 37mm machine gun, especially in the bomber escort role.

The Br. 5 was powered by a 220-horsepower Renault engine, while some had a 250-horsepower Rolls-Royce known as the "Eagle". The engine is located aft of the crew area - in fact, directly behind the pilot - and is of the "slider" type, driving a two-bladed propeller system.

The design is very functional, with a simple bathtub-like fuselage, static tricycle landing gear, and a frame and cables leading to the tail. A single vertical stabilizer completes the design.

In action, the Br. 5 was primarily used as a night bomber and was used by French and British armies between 1916 and 1917, although it debuted in the summer of 1915.
