Breedaba. 25 History

In the early 1930s, Societa Italiana Ernesto Breda (Breda) supplied its standard biplane trainer "Ba.25" to the Italian Air Force "Regia Aeronautica". The type was very traditional in design and layout, and proved successful enough that 763 units were eventually produced from 1931 to 1938.

Three prototypes proved the design ring after first flying in 1931 and entering service in 1932, eventually becoming one of the global operators from Afghanistan and Austria to Paraguay and Spain.

Structurally, the aircraft had a typical interwar appearance, with a biplane main aircraft, fixed "trailer" landing gear, and an open-air cockpit. The main aircraft has separate compartments and is supported by parallel struts and cables, while being mounted forward of the cockpit.

The landing gear has two wheeled and splash-free main legs, while the tail is supported by a simple spring-loaded skid for ground operation. The cockpit is juxtaposed with the instructor at the rear and the student pilot at the front.

Leading the pair were mounted radial engines, which, along with the biplane wings, naturally reduced forward visibility - a common limitation of biplane designs.

bar. The 25 has a length of 25.6 feet, a wingspan of 32.8 feet and a height of 9.3 feet. Curb weight is 1,738 lbs and total weight is 5,044 lbs. The air-cooled Alfa Romeo D2 9-cylinder radial piston engine develops 240 hp and drives a twin-blade propeller unit in the nose.

The top speed attainable is 127 mph, while the cruising speed is closer to 121 mph. Range is 310 miles, while service is capped at 24,600 feet. Climb rate is 565 feet per minute available.

In its original form, this is Ba. The 25 was designed as a single seater before the prototype was modified to accommodate a second cockpit and crew. After test flights, Regia Aeronautica received an order for 100 biplanes for training purposes, all delivered before or around 1935.

They proved so popular that service contracts for additional airframes delivered before the end of the decade (just before the fighting in World War II (1939-1945)) provided Regia Aeronautica with approximately approx. 719 units. Following the surrender of Italy in September 1943, the 25 served in the ensuing conflict, albeit limited to its basic instructor role, flying for both sides.

They passed their last days in 1945, which coincided with the last year of fighting.

The original version was simply referred to as "Ba. 25". The "Ba. 25/Lynx" contains a 200 hp Alfa Romeo "Lynx" engine. The "Ba. 25/D. 2" was then fitted with a 240 hp Alfa Romeo D2 engine, and the "Ba. 25/Mezzo-Asso" was fitted with a 200-series 220 hp Isotta-Fraschini Asso engine.

bar. The 25 "Ridotto" was completed as an aerobatics platform and was equipped with shorter wings for roll and ba. The 25-I ("Idro") was a special model of seaplane (available in single-seat form) of which 42 were produced. The "Ba.

26" was a one-off, built as a main trainer with an elongated main aircraft powered by a Walter NZ120 engine - it never moved beyond its prototype form. Export-oriented bar. The 25 became "Ba. 28", inherited and passed down by Regia Aeronautica (about 50 designs were originally ordered).

The aircraft were powered by Gnome-Rhone 7K series engines (built locally by Piaggio) and ended up in the inventories of global players including the Air Force of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
