The Thales Spy'Ranger is a classified small drone designed for military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations on the battlefield. Its versatile and robust design allows ground commanders to have real-time aerial views, serving as a forward combat solution. Beyond military applications, it can be utilized for artillery targeting and humanitarian operations.
The drone's traditional design incorporates a streamlined fuselage housing major components, with optics positioned for an unobstructed view and an electric propulsion system driving a twin-blade propeller. Quick deployment in the field, with a single soldier managing the entire system, highlights its portability. The Spy'Ranger's capabilities include speeds of 65 to 90 km/h, autonomous features, and a secure data connection. In case of a lost connection, the drone autonomously returns to a preset point for retrieval.
Available in two models, the Spy'Ranger 330 and Spy'Ranger 550, with distinct specifications, the drone has been in service with the French Armed Forces, specifically the Spy'Ranger 330 variant, to address internal unrest in Mali since 2020. Its integration into military operations showcases its effectiveness and adaptability in diverse scenarios.
