History of the North American XSN2-1
The North American XSN2J-1, also known by the company name NA-142, was developed by North American Airlines for the US Navy as a replacement for SNJ Texan as the Senior Scout Trainer. The XSN2J-1 was developed in competition with the Fairchild XNQ and first flew on February 15, 1947, with both aircraft being evaluated by the Navy. During the evaluation, both aircraft were deemed satisfactory.
Additionally, Navy budget constraints meant the aircraft could not be ordered at the time, and the program was canceled in 1948. A similar T-28 Trojan was later ordered to meet the Navy's needs for a new trainer.
