History of Focke-Wulf Ta 154 Mosquitoes (Mosquitoes)
The Ta 154 Moskito ("Mucke") is another product of Focke-Wulf, an aircraft manufacturing company working for the Third Reich. Classified as a night fighter, the design looked most promising until a series of delays and losses for the first two production aircraft effectively canceled all other future orders.
Thus, the Ta 154 is still a study of the "what could be" form of the Luftwaffe aircraft.
The Ta 154 is a twin-engined, liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 211F 12-cylinder inverted V engine driving a three-bladed propeller. The hull design is very simple, with only one rudder element in the stern area.
Simple landing gear was used, and as many aircraft as possible were built of wood to offset the lack of supplies of the precious war metal. There were two people in the crew quarters, a pilot and a radio operator behind him.
The armament is impressive, with two 30mm MK108 cannons and two 20mm MG151 cannons mounted on the sides of the hull. In addition, the Ta 154 Moskito is equipped with a 30mm cannon in the upper part of the fuselage, belonging to the MK108 type.
Ta 154 reached operational status, albeit with a severely reduced capacity, and operated with at least two German aviation groups. Still, the system was adversely affected by fighting a lost war. Therefore, the potential of the Ta 154 mosquito control system will never be realized.
