History of the Gulfstream G700

Since its founding in 1958, Gulfstream Aerospace (a subsidiary of General Dynamics) has been at the forefront of VIP travel, providing every possible solution for the most discerning aircraft buyer and high-profile flyer. The company never stopped growing its catalog, resulting in a steady inventory of products primarily in the twin-jet VIP market.

Launched in October 2019, the G700 series is the company's new flagship. The design evolved from the G650 business jet and was designed to compete with aircraft such as the Bombardier Global 7500 series.

The first deliveries of the new jet to potential customers are expected sometime in 2020, but the start of service has been pushed back to the 2020s.

Like most other Gulfstream products, the sleek G700 features a refined aerodynamic design with angled prongs. Pilots enjoy side-by-side seats above the nose with excellent visibility, with all crew and passenger entry and exit through rectangular doors at the rear of the cockpit. At the rear of this area is the passenger area, with ten windows on one side of the fuselage providing unobstructed views of the terrain below. The tail consists of a "T-shaped" tail assembly centered on a single vertical tail. Twin turbofan units are mounted on short wings at the rear of the fuselage to keep the engine as far back as possible, reducing cabin noise.

The main aircraft is mounted low amidships with swept leading and trailing edges, while on top are elegantly shaped winglets for enhanced control and improved fuel efficiency. In addition, the wing panels feature a "wet" design to store fuel, allowing the new jet to have "long legs" in the sky.

As expected, a conventional retractable wheel/tricycle undercarriage is provided for ground operations.

Engines chosen were 2 Rolls-Royce "Pearl" 700 (Rb. 3043) turbofans rated at 18,250 pounds of thrust per unit. This gives the jet an effective takeoff range of 6,250 feet and a normal cruise altitude of over 50,000 feet.

The cockpit consists of state-of-the-art solutions including digitally assisted fly-by-wire (FBW) control based on the kit used on the G500 and G600 platforms. The front instrument panel is dominated by no less than four full-color Multi-Function Displays (MFDs), while each pilot's position is separated by a center console containing the throttle controls and other associated operating systems. Head-up displays (HUDs) are located in front of each position to aid in landing operations, and the two crew members share additional overhead controls.

Part of Gulfstream's "Symmetry Flight Deck" avionics suite, the jet is controlled via a "sidestick" control scheme that includes a fully interactive touchscreen display and reduced pilot workload.

The interior design of the aircraft is highly customizable from the outset, allowing for various configurations of seating, dining, leisure and work areas. Depending on the configuration chosen, up to five separate living areas are available, including a set-up with a full kitchen and master suite, and another with an "ultra-galley" with a crew compartment.

All in all, the interior can accommodate up to 19 passengers and up to 10 passengers in great comfort.

The cab is the longest, widest, tallest in its class - and possibly the quietest. This section can simulate lighting in different time zones to reduce the effects of jet lag on long drives.

Passengers can enjoy oversized oval windows for light and views, while the seats can easily be converted into beds if desired. Includes Jet ConneX Ka-Band WiFi System for high-speed internet connection.

The G700 has a maximum range of 7,500 nautical miles at a speed of just under Mach 1.0. The aircraft has an M.T.O.W. rated weight of 48,807 kg and dimensions include a barrel length of 33.48 m and a wingspan of 31.39 m and a height of 7.75 m, the G700 is the longest Gulfstream aircraft available, approximately 10 feet longer than the previous G650 .
