BOV M16 Milo's Story

BOV M16 "Milos" is a Serbian designed, developed and produced mine-resistant, ambush-resistant (MRAP) vehicle. The system was designed by Yugoimport SDPR in 2015 and went into production in 2016 under the Complex Combat Systems brand in Velika Plana, Serbia. Two prototypes were used to demonstrate development, which will be sold to the military, law enforcement and security forces.

It was publicly displayed at IDEX 2017 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

The vehicle has a traditional four-wheel layout with the engine compartment in the bow and the crew compartment in the middle rear. Hull armor is resistant to small arms fire and artillery "spray". The chassis is high off the ground, thanks in large part to its oversized wheels, which give the vehicle excellent ground clearance. Featuring a proven "V-shaped" hull form and "floating" floor, the Milos is designed to mitigate the impact of explosions when the vehicle drives over buried explosives.

Occupants are further protected by blast-proof seats and bulletproof windows. Armor protection corresponds to STANAG 4569 Level III. Wheels also have an inherent "limp home" capability to help the vehicle escape imminent danger (eg, a sudden ambush).

A Remote Weapon Station (RWS) with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun is mounted above the hull for anti-infantry work. The RWS is also equipped with 6 smoke grenade launchers to help the vehicle filter itself when needed.

The station is also equipped with day/night goggles and a laser rangefinder, increasing the crew's situational awareness. Muzzles are located around the hull, allowing the crew to fire at enemy positions within range of the truck.

Future installations planned for the RWS include an Anti-Tank Missile Launcher (ATGM), enabling the vehicle to be used as a long-range tank killer carrying missiles, a belt-driven automatic grenade launcher for troop suppression and anti-aircraft countermeasures against low-altitude flight threatening weapon.

Power is provided by a Cummins ISB 300 series diesel engine developing 300 hp for a 4x4 wheel arrangement. This works with the Allison 3500SP automatic transmission system. Suspension is achieved through all four wheels. On paved roads, road speeds hit 68 mph, and off-road speeds were slower.

Variants of the series (using the same tried and trusted chassis livery) include the Field Ambulance, the Artillery Scout and the Command Vehicle (CV).
