BTR-50

History

The BTR-50 series of Soviet armored personnel carriers was developed in the 1950s and performed well for some time. The system has proven reliable in the field and is simple enough to be mass-produced making it easy to use, and based on the chassis of the PT-76 light tank, the system also boasts the proven amphibious capability developed by the BTR-50 design. also accepted.

The system served pro-Soviet states during the Cold War.

At the heart of the BTR-50 APC is the most basic design. The system is operated by a crew of two, and the rear of the hull provides additional seating for about 10 combat-ready infantrymen. The crew sits in a compartment with an open top, exposing them to any battlefield elements that could prove disruptive.

The initial production model came in the form of the BTR-50P, followed by a closed version of the BTR-50PK. When the BTR-50 entered service, it only became the first fully tracked armored personnel carrier of the Red Army.

The armament of the BTR-50P base consists of a 7.62mm machine gun mounted on a trunnion on the forward fuselage. In addition, for the personal weapons of all crew members, there are 57mm or 85mm anti-tank guns that can be mounted and fired from the rear.

Later BTR-50PKs had a 7.62mm machine gun mounted on the roof.

The BTR-50 series fought against Egyptian, Syrian and North Vietnamese armies during production. The BTR-50 came in a modified Czechoslovakian form under the local designation OT-62.

The BTR-50 series is no longer in service with the Russian army, although it may still be in service with other upcoming owners around the world.
