FNSS KAPLAN 30 NG AFV

History

The Turkish military continues to modernize, especially its army, but most notably its newfound reliance on domestic solutions. This is the case with the FNSS ACV-30, an armoured fighting vehicle currently (2017) being developed for the Turkish army. The track wheel system is designed using a modular mission approach, where different modules can be attached to the base vehicle to create a solution that meets specific battlefield needs.

From the looks of it, the ACV-30 has been selected for an air defense role, including both weapon and missile versions, which in turn will support the ACV-30 "Korkut" Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun (SPAAG) and "HISAR" missile programs.

Currently, the Turkish Army relies on Cold War-era U.S. M42A1 "Duster" SPAAG series vehicles (detailed elsewhere on this page). The arrival of the Korkut and HISAR systems will significantly advance Turkey's air defenses, both for local defense and for airspace blockade in theaters. The Korkut vehicle carries 2 x 35mm Oerlikon KDC-02 series automatic cannons with an ammunition supply of 1,100 rounds. The range is up to four kilometers.

Radar-based vehicles are also operating alongside weapons-based vehicles.

The HISAR variant is becoming a more advanced version of the self-propelled surface-to-air missile (SAM), which includes two sub-variants - the short-range low-altitude system (HISAR-A) and the long-range medium-altitude system (HISAR-O). The goal of the product is to block airspace using radars and missiles capable of tracking and defeating incoming air targets from a distance.

The capabilities of the vehicle were jointly developed by Aselsan and Roketsan.

The base vehicle component in both forms (basically fulfilling the role of an Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV)) is a 29.5 ton armored system with an overall hull length of 23.2 feet, width of 12.8 feet and height of 7.2 feet. Three Crew and armor protection is STANAG 4569 level 4. Power comes from a 600-horsepower diesel engine that can reach speeds of up to 40 mph and have a range of 310 miles.

This allows the ACV-30 to keep up with the main mechanized forces and traverse rough terrain and shallow waters.

Expect vehicle deliveries around the early 2020s.
