Kurganets-25 History
The new IFV platform "Kurganets-25" is designed to replace the long-standing BMP-4 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) series used by the Russian army. Visually, the Kurganets-25 deviates from the general BMP form factor and adopts a more Western design approach, reminiscent of the Bradley in the United States, Dardo in Italy or the CV90 in Sweden. The vehicle is part of the Armata "Universal Combat Platform" (UCP) developed by the Russian military to deploy various vehicles that revolve around a common chassis, including auto parts.
The Kurganets-25 is equipped with the same unmanned turret as the T-15 Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle (HIFV) detailed elsewhere on this page.
The Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle was unveiled to the public at the 2015 Moscow Victory Day military parade, joining the new T-14 Main Battle Tank (MBT), T-15 HIFV and several others designed for a "new look" Russian army.
The IFV design uses the same seven twin-tire wheel arrangement as the T-14 and T-15, although the drive sprocket is located at the front like the latter. This will move the idler to the rear of the vehicle. The engine is in a forward position, allowing the rear of the vehicle to serve the tower position and accommodate a sheltered seven-seat passenger cabin.
The standard operator consisted of three people (driver, commander, and gunner), and the entire team sat in the hull. The primary weapons in the game via the remote control turret are a 30mm automatic cannon and a 7.62mm machine gun. The turret is also equipped with 4 anti-tank missile (ATGM) launchers for long-range anti-tank operations. Carry 500 x 30mm projectiles and 2,000 x 7.62mm ammunition.
Another turret mount is also identified as a more modest 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun mount (remote).
Diesel engines power the propulsion components of the Kurganets-25 armored personnel carrier and provide power between 500 and 800 hp. This enables road speeds close to 80 km/h and a range of up to 500 km. The vehicle also has amphibious capability, traversing water at a usable speed of 10 km/h.
Dimensions include 7.2m long, 2.5m high and 3.2m wide. With a total weight of 25 tons, it was heavier than the BMP-4 it replaced. The vehicle also supports additional armor for increased survivability, while carrying smoke grenade launchers and full active protection gear.
